Band concerts
A couple of weeks ago we had a week of concerts. Monday, MaryAnne sang with the choirs. Tuesday, Emma and David played with the bands. The concerts were long and I was glad that we didn't take everyone both nights. Two hours each night would have been more than the Waite children would enjoy. MaryAnne, David and Emma each did great. Here is a sampling of their concerts. I do love to hear the beautiful music they get to take part in.
Planting time
When it is time to start planting things you know it must be spring break at our house. Neil had spring break this past week. He went to his office almost everyday, but I think he still enjoyed his break. He did find time to start his tomato plants. It is spring break tradition for as long as we have been in Powell. Lydia loved being his assistant planter. It was cute to watch her work with daddy. She loves to help so much!
Later that day Lydia told me she wanted to plant a pretzel tree. I was busy getting dinner ready so I told her to go ahead without really paying attention. When Matthew checked on what she was up to this is what he found.
Apparently it takes a whole bag of pretzels to plant a pretzel tree. She worked hard to dig a little hole in our hard dirt. She was diligently watering her pretzel tree with her shovel using her cup of water. I thought it was adorable. I hope her tree grows great pretzels. She has also planted an apple tree and a tangelo tree. We'll see how they do in our Wyoming growing season. I am glad she likes to grow things like her dad, Grandpa Sharp, and Grandma Karan.

A rare Saturday with nothing on the schedule and beautiful weather
We had one of those rare Saturdays with not much on the schedule and beautiful weather last week. We decided to take full advantage of it and have an outdoor family activity. We took a picnic lunch to Parkside. The children had a great time playing and eating on the playground. It was fun to hear the older kids reminisce about their Parkside days. When lunch was done we drove out to the Bench for some kite flying, hiking, and shooting. We had a great time together. We took the walkie talkies and the kids had fun talking to each other. At first we couldn't get the kites up so we went on a hike instead. Dallin lead the way and found an old refrigerator down in the valley. Lydia was sure it wouldn't work very well anymore. About ten years ago we found an old car at the Bench. I guess this is just where we need to go when we want to replace something. The children had great fun exploring and wondering about everything they found. Dallin found a pretty cool peak to climb. We called it Dallin's Peak. Once he tried to climb it going the steeper way and couldn't go up or down. Neil saved him. On our hike Joshua announced that he lost his second tooth. Neil helped him find it so he could add it to his tooth collection. After our hike the wind came up so we tried the kites again. We got the Angry Bird kite to fly very well. Matthew and David enjoyed letting the kite go out as far as the string could. They had fun seeing if they could get it all the way back in without it touching the ground. They were successful. The princess kite didn't do so well, but Matthew and Lydia had fun trying to fly it. Bethany and Julia enjoyed just visiting with each other. It was a wonderful day to have fun together. Our landscape is still pretty brown, but it was a beautiful spring day. Hope you enjoy the pictures of our adventure.

The Star Spangled Banner
MaryAnne has been singing in the Powell Kids Chorus this year. There are kids from all three elementary schools. They have had the opportunity to perform together several times. On Saturday they were asked to sing the national anthem at the Powell vs Lovell basketball game. They did a great job. I am glad MaryAnne likes to sing and has had this chance.
Lost
Joshua lost his loose tooth on Wednesday. He either pulled it out himself or it just fell out. He was so excited. The first thing he wanted to do was call Neil and tell him about it. He was happy when the tooth fairy brought him a dollar and left his tooth so he could start a tooth collection. Isn't this a cute grin?
